A bit busy

I actually felt that you've got a bit too much going on at the same time, especially with those toms against the harp. The falling bassline and harmonies kind of reminded me of that famous Bach aria, though the second part diverges. Anyways, I think you should just scale back either the toms or the harp a bit, cause right now they clash a bit rhythmically in my opinion.

RetellaVII responds:

Huh. I kind of thought the toms were a little weird for the harp. Oh well.
I guess I will tweak them later.

Thank you for pointing that out. :)

zapin

I'm liking the transitions and progressions in the piece; the lead-in to the DnB part was nicely done, and didn't feel like you just jumped from an ambient piece to a DnB piece. Also, Interesting piano sound; actually kinda sounded like a clean guitar until you hit that high note. But I think it felt a bit too repetitive compared to the other stuff, so maybe you should add an alternate riff for it?

oddfellowfloyd responds:

aww thank you, mate. glad you enjoyed! i literally wrote this a couple of hours ago, so... if i write an additional piano riff to follow that one, perhaps then i'll redo this... i think that the quirky high 'e' note is my favourite, hehe. ;P

but thank you again for the kind words.

Cool sounds

I'm really enjoying your selection of instruments, though the metallic percussion gives me more of a southeast asian feel. I'm not really feeling the solo marimba part though, and some of the transitions feel kind of rough. I liked the style change from the first section to the second, but the other ones felt too abrupt - it doesn't really loop all that well either. I think you should try to expand on the sections some more and just make it full-fledged song. Some real potential here.

TheSpanishInquisitio responds:

Thanks for the review. I'll probably keep working on it if I keep getting comments like this

Trippy

Really like this non-drummed approach, but for some reason the instrument choice doesn't rub me the right way. Sounds too distorted, and not in an intentional manner either. Maybe it's just me though - like the idea, for sure.

Urpule responds:

Yeah thanks alot i was kinda try something diffrent .. the distortion is what i as kinda going for.. . try listening to it with head phone it sounds better i think.. thanks for reply and PEAce

Sum

It doesn't sound too classical piano to me anyhow, so you should just keep the delay - it makes it sound good. Some of the chords didn't sound too good, but I liked the piece overall - feels kind of free and mysterious.

Lamplighter responds:

Okay, sure. This is my first piece, so I'm still working on all the musical details. :) I'm glad you liked it, though!

Engaging

I actually didn't find this to be that repetitive at all, and this is coming from someone who normally finds trance to be quite boring and repetitive. Sure the drums and bassline remains same throughout, but you manage to keep the other parts all shuffling around which keeps it quite interesting - there's never a moment where the music feels like it's stagnating.

Death-9 responds:

Thanks! I do try :)

Nice and mellow

It's a simple tune, but it's nice and enjoyable. Only thing that was a bit distracting is when you stopped for a different take, which is really audible in the recording. Might want to filter out some of that noise that gives it away.

Boux responds:

yeah going to work on that

Nice use of ambience

Really enjoyed the beginning with the cityscape sound effects, with the piano playing dilutely in the background. The transition into the song felt a bit abrupt, but works well enough I guess. The music itself is pretty solid and portrays the mood well for the most part (my favorite being the part where the piano mostly keeps repeating that one chords), but the recording sounds kind of lo-fi to me (you can clearly hear the distortion in the strings), and there are also a few places where it sounds distorted due to clipping or something. Overall, I found this enjoyable, but some more polish definitely wouldn't hurt.

Kusho-Konnection responds:

Thanks for this critique. I'm definitely planning on remastering this piece whenever I get the equipment to do so.

Well

I donno about this piece - it sounds like you got some nice chords and stuff, but everything sounds too distorted and lo-fi for me to make it out clearly. Maybe you should record it quieter, or with the effects turned down some?

upgradepro responds:

i will do that thanks for your review

Neat beat

I really like the beat with echo and flange effect, though when you have the kicks too close together, they kind of sound out of sync. The other instruments certainly add to the sensation of pressure, though there were a few parts where instruments dropped out/changed too quickly, in my opinion. Overall, cool piece though.

ShadowNazi169 responds:

i've noticed that some just drop, i must have missed them the last time i was editing them over. i'll try and fix that and get it here, hopefully it'll be better.
