Nice sounds,

I like the sound of this, but I think the loop is too short. It sounds fine for the first couple of times, but afterwards you sort of get the impression the song is stuck due to a cd being stuck or something. It should take more than an antecedent phrase to fix this, though.

Evil-Dog responds:

well....it's a menu music....are you staying in the menu for an hour?
You have to think about how the music is used...there's no point making a minute long piece when it's only gonna play for like 20 seconds.
thanks for the review

Epic

Really like the ostinato part in this. Interesting contrast between the fluffy sounding synth and the dirty soundy bass. The only thing that kinda annoying me were the drum toms, which really lacked the organic feel of the rest of the piece. Otherwise, I really dig this. Great job!

Ace

Really like the intro to this piece - the spacefx and the diminished chord harmonies really gave it that old-school sci-fi feel. When you started laying down the funk the piece sort of lightened up, but still kept that spacey feel due to the instrumentation. I'm not really huge fan of funk, but this piece really hit the spot for me. Nice job.

Cool mix

Interesting mix of genres, not something you hear too often. Too bad the length is kind of short though.

Minimal, but...

I think you were going for a minimal feel, but the challenge in such pieces is that some things become more noticable that you might otherwise get away with. For example, the feel of the first minute where you just have that repeating bass notes is a lot different from the feel of the next section when you suddenly start moving the notes a lot quicker. If this was just a bass line to with stuff overlayed on top, it would sound probably quite natural. But as is, there's a sense of something "missing", when in fact nothing should be.

Nice piano riff

Really like the piano riff in this piece. Wish the piece was longer though and had more sections.

Solid

It comes off as a bit generic sounding, but do rather like the little bell arpeggios part. Also, the loop is well done. Very solid, if somewhat short.

Brass kind of sucks, but interesting piece

The brass in the piece starts to play like a keyboard at parts, with sustained chords being rolled or pedaled or something. And when it gets loud, it has a rather annoying sort of sound. I think you should've added another lead instrument so you can just have the brass playing softer chords and not be in the foreground so much (unless you can get a better brass sample). Drum loop is alright, but the bass and whatever else ends up sounding really muddy.

thanks for the review. im considering making a version 2, or just plain another song like this soon. perhaps with like, flute or something lol.

Mysterious, though feels somewhat unbalanced

First off, the drums start off really off-beat, and it took a while for it to get on beat - this makes this piece sound really amateurish. I like the guitar effect that comes in, but you only seem to use it like twice in the piece - kinda blew my expectation of a guitar being in this piece. The rest of the piece seems to revolve around the string chord progressions, the melody mostsly being arpeggiated versions of the chords, but it kind of picked up around 1:50 when you have the alternating instruments play the melody. Wish this part would've been expanded, or led to a different section.

HaniiPuppy responds:

I didn't want the drums to start off on-beat, when i tried the drums on-beat, it just sounded kinda boring & cliché =p and if you listen carefully, it's morse-code xP

If you listen to the song with either a bass-booster or a decent pair of headphones, you'll be able to hear the bass guitar better, although the guitar i used for the switch from the intro the start of the first main part and the soft part to the 2nd main part, in my opinion, wouldn't have created the effect i was hoping for.

I was kinda hoping for the main melody to switch between the piano and the glock (the glock melody is alittle more complicated than the piano melody)

I'll keep that post in mind when i start the next piece, thanks for the CC!

I couldn't quite get the feel, but nice piece

I liked the intro part, but once you added the drum loop it started to head towards generic techno feel. The harmonies feel kind of consistent throughout, and the melody always felt like it had a dark tinge on it. I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't quite see this evolution that you speak of. Perhaps I'm not picking up on the subtly, but if so, I'd like to see variation to better underscore the changes.

As for the piece itself, I think I found it enjoyable as is, though maybe the drum loop could use more variation.

X-it responds:

I made this and indeed everything so far from samples that came with my programs. At the time I didnt know how to use my sample creator or anything like that. And I suppose you're right, the transformation doesnt really happen in the song. Guess it was an "in my head" kind of deal lol
