What's the connection

I'm kinda curious what connection this has to the "I-Love-You" theme - did you happen to sample something from it? Anyways, it's not a too bad of loop, but it's really short. But I guess someone might be able to use this in their piece or something.

Like the pacing in this

I like how you slowly but smoothly add on to the mix. Also find it interesting that some of the accompaniment part is in is parallel major against the otherwise minor piece - people will probably find it "out of tune", but I think it adds a nice sharp edge to the piece. Looking forward to the full version.

Cool stuff

You got some good riffs in this piece, but watch the mixing during the busier parts so they don't all get too jumbled up together (especially if you are listening with speakers rather than headphones). That said, I definitely prefer the less busier parts in this piece, but I think you can probably get the more dense parts to work with some careful balancing, or cutting some parts if necessary.

thanks !

Hmm

That fake sounding trumpet or whatever was really annoying at the beginning, and for a while it felt like the piece wasn't really going anywhere interesting. But I really liked how you started passing theme around with different sythns later on. The title sounds like it's just a fragment, so I hope you will choose to develop the full piece in such interesting ways. Keep it up.

zcult responds:

Appreciate the fair judgement. I know it's not particularly impressive.

Needs some more reverb

I think adding more reverb would make it feel more ambient. Also, I could almost hear this quiet synthy sounding sounding trail following the piano (during the parts without the block chords) - I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I think you can probably play off this more and make it a bit present, and perhaps have it evolve throughout the piece. There were a few awkward pauses after around 3:00 - I think you should make these sound a bit more intentional, even if they were already. Also, I think when you have both the left and right hand playing, the music starts to get clipped, so watch your levels.

Overall, I think this could've been developed a bit more (in spite of being minimal in its roots), and executed with a bit more deliberation.

My new song Liturgic Ceremony is basically this song done up in a much better way. Hopefully you like what I've done with this originally very bland piece.

Hey

I think the slow part and fast part feel kind of too seperated from one another (probably cause that weird effect thing you use as a transition almost makes it feel like a crossfade between then rather than a true transition)- almost feels like two completely different pieces. That said, I like both parts in and of themselves. The guitars sound pretty good, if maybe a bit too soft; the drums feel a bit weak, especially with the mellow toms. But that's probably more of a personal preference than anything else. Good job.

A bit messy sounding

I like the vocoder effect thing you've got, and the other samples and stuff to, but I think this loop felt a bit all over the place. You can probably make two or three decent loops with the material in this piece, but when you string them freely together like this, it ends up sounding kinda messy. Well, maybe it's just me, but that's how I see it. Or maybe you just need to make it longer into a full-fledged piece?

Fight for your

I like the chords at the beginning part, but later it kinda breaks out into almost a speed-metal feel, which kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe if you make the piece longer it'll help offset the disjunct transition? Not bad at all though.

Evil-Dog responds:

I don't know if you played the game but I think that's where the song makes the most sense, not all by itself here.

Well, it's a start

I think right now it's kind of at the point where it can go anywhere - for better or for worse (I think it'll probably be the accompaniment that'll make or break it). The recording sounds alright except for a few notes where it sounds like it's clip - the line noise can probably be filtered out too. Anyways, I think I'll reserve my judgment until the full song is done.

Cool riff

Pretty sweet loop, but it sounds like the cymbals or hi-hats or some crap is really distorted in the mix. Try encoding at higher rates or something, maybe that'll help. Not much more to say since it's kinda short, but I can see this growing into something cool. Keep it up.
