Neat

The intro was pretty neat - I liked how you started with with that bandlimited lo-fi feel, and gradually swept the EQ open. The rest of the piece sounded alright - a bit bare at parts, but certainly a commendable effort for a first try at Electronica. The only thing that bothered me somewhat was the drums, which felt kind of weak with respect to everything else, and the pattern felt a bit too sloppy.

I can't speak much for the mixing right now since my headphones are pretty colored, but it sounds like your low end is kind of saturated when you've got the bass playing. Maybe cut that off a bit?

Not bad

Nice loop you've got, feels of kinda of catchy really (and that guitar glide up at the end was a nice touch too). Not much else to say, but the mixing could be a bit clearer (the lower range sounds kind of boomy, and for the latter parts I couldn't hear the yells clearly). But for simple loop it's not too big of a deal. Good job.

Nice short little song

Interesting portrayal. I thought the beginning parts sounded a bit too joyful for your description, but it does take a somewhat darker turn near the middle. Main thing is probably the length - though there are some good ideas, it's a bit too short for me to get emotionally invested to the theme.

Xyirx responds:

I'm having problems with the length sometimes. It's like I couldn't get it any longer. But thanks for the comment, I'll definitely take it seriously. :)

Intense

It's got that dark DnB feel, though with heavy backing. The orchestra hits work well for the low notes, but when they go high is when they start sounding really fake and cheesy. I'd recommend something else for the higher parts.

Chordish

Not a bad riff to start off with, though the chords clash a bit with bassline when they first come in - specifically, the second chord clashes when you quickly move back to the C from F (if I'm getting those notes right). You should probably either change the chord there or just keep the bass note on F for a bit longer.

A bit busy

I actually felt that you've got a bit too much going on at the same time, especially with those toms against the harp. The falling bassline and harmonies kind of reminded me of that famous Bach aria, though the second part diverges. Anyways, I think you should just scale back either the toms or the harp a bit, cause right now they clash a bit rhythmically in my opinion.

RetellaVII responds:

Huh. I kind of thought the toms were a little weird for the harp. Oh well.
I guess I will tweak them later.

Thank you for pointing that out. :)

Nice melody

I'm really liking the riff in the high synth - reminds me of all the good stuff I like about trance, and it really does project a floaty feeling or sorts. The secondary drum rhythm starting at about 1:20 feels a bit strange in my opinion, almost clumsy feeling - it's probably just a bit too break-beatish I guess. Also, though I like the fact that you often mix up the instruments, having the main drums drop out too much kind of makes it lose it's drive - it's especially noticeable since the piece isn't very long (relatively to most trance pieces). But overall, I liked this piece - it's fairly simple melodically and rhythmically, but still evokes complex feelings. Nice job.

zapin

I'm liking the transitions and progressions in the piece; the lead-in to the DnB part was nicely done, and didn't feel like you just jumped from an ambient piece to a DnB piece. Also, Interesting piano sound; actually kinda sounded like a clean guitar until you hit that high note. But I think it felt a bit too repetitive compared to the other stuff, so maybe you should add an alternate riff for it?

oddfellowfloyd responds:

aww thank you, mate. glad you enjoyed! i literally wrote this a couple of hours ago, so... if i write an additional piano riff to follow that one, perhaps then i'll redo this... i think that the quirky high 'e' note is my favourite, hehe. ;P

but thank you again for the kind words.

Neat idea

I kind of like the fast envelope switching, but it does get kind of disorienting when you use it the whole time. Wouldn't mind at all if it was used a bit more selectively. Still, solid beats. Good stuff.

Groovy

I'm liking the funky brass lines you've got, and those pizz shots are a really nicely placed addition. The persistant piano bass kind of got annoying after a while though, since it's doesn't change at all, but is very present in the mix.
